It's 'High School Musical' with a hangover
as the 'Brits on Tour' return from the summer holiday of their
young lives and face an hours delay in Malaga Airport Departure
Lounge. With time to kill they begin to recount some of the hilarious
antics of the week, but they can't agree on anything, least of
all the character of Sophie, who is a princess or a slapper depending
on whose memory she inhabits. The lads are forced to examine who
they really are, as individuals, a group and even as a nationality
as the discover what it's like to be young, British and despised
by the rest of Europe.
Departure Lounge is an acoustic guitar musical, with
influences from Brit-Pop, via flamenco with some acoustic rap thrown
in.
Departure Lounge won the inaugural Perfect Pitch Showcase of new
musicals in 2006 and was picked up by three commercial producers.
Following two
workshop peformances in the West End at the Arts Theatre in March
2007 under the title 'Unzipped!' and excerpts being presented
at the Whatsonstage Awards ceremony at the Lyric Theatre, with
great critical success, the show is now ready for it's World Premiere
production. Enjoy!
